Overview
What is the ECO4?
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) is administered by Ofgem / energy suppliers and available to eligible properties in UK-wide. It is designed to help homeowners reduce the upfront cost of installing low-carbon energy systems and improvements — contributing to the UK's net-zero targets while lowering household energy bills.
This scheme supports installations including Air Source Heat Pump, Solar PV.
Eligibility
Am I eligible?
- You receive a qualifying means-tested benefit (Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Income Support, ESA, JSA, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, or Housing Benefit).
- Or your home has an EPC rating of D, E, F or G and your household is on a low income.
- The home must be your primary residence.
- Properties in certain council tax bands may qualify under the "ECO Flex" route via your local authority.

Process
How it works

Contact your energy supplier or an ECO4-registered installer — they assess your eligibility at no cost to you.

If eligible, the installer submits an application to your energy supplier, who funds the works.

Approved improvements are installed free of charge — you pay nothing.
- 4
Works are independently inspected to Publicly Available Specification (PAS) standards.
