UK-wide Ofgem / energy suppliers

Energy Company Obligation (ECO4)

Fully funded available

Obliges large energy suppliers to fund free heating and insulation upgrades for low-income and vulnerable households — potentially covering 100% of costs.

What is the ECO4?

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) is administered by Ofgem / energy suppliers and available to eligible properties in UK-wide. It is designed to help homeowners reduce the upfront cost of installing low-carbon energy systems and improvements — contributing to the UK's net-zero targets while lowering household energy bills.

This scheme supports installations including Air Source Heat Pump, Solar PV.

Am I eligible?

  • You receive a qualifying means-tested benefit (Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Income Support, ESA, JSA, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, or Housing Benefit).
  • Or your home has an EPC rating of D, E, F or G and your household is on a low income.
  • The home must be your primary residence.
  • Properties in certain council tax bands may qualify under the "ECO Flex" route via your local authority.

Not sure if you qualify? A free home assessment from one of our MCS-certified installers will confirm your eligibility and identify every grant you can access.

How it works

  1. 1

Contact your energy supplier or an ECO4-registered installer — they assess your eligibility at no cost to you.

  2. 2

If eligible, the installer submits an application to your energy supplier, who funds the works.

  3. 3

Approved improvements are installed free of charge — you pay nothing.

  4. 4

Works are independently inspected to Publicly Available Specification (PAS) standards.
