UK Energy Grant
Great British Insulation Scheme
Provides insulation grants for homes with a low energy-efficiency rating, funded through energy suppliers — helping households cut bills and carbon emissions.
Overview
What is the GBIS?
The Great British Insulation Scheme is administered by Ofgem / energy suppliers and available to eligible properties in England, Scotland & Wales. It is designed to help homeowners reduce the upfront cost of installing low-carbon energy systems and improvements — contributing to the UK's net-zero targets while lowering household energy bills.
Eligibility
Am I eligible?
- Your home has an EPC rating of D or below (E, F or G homes get priority).
- You live in council tax bands A–D in England, A–E in Scotland, or A–D in Wales.
- Or your household is in receipt of a qualifying means-tested benefit.
- The property must be your primary residence.
Not sure if you qualify? A free home assessment from one of our MCS-certified installers will confirm your eligibility and identify every grant you can access.
Process
How it works
- 1
Contact your energy supplier or a registered installer to check eligibility.
- 2
An installer surveys your home and identifies the most cost-effective insulation measure (e.g. loft, cavity wall, or solid wall).
- 3
One primary insulation measure is funded — installed at no cost to you if fully eligible, or at a reduced contribution otherwise.
- 4
Works are independently inspected and must meet PAS 2035 standards.
