How Air Source Heat Pump installation works

  1. A certified surveyor assesses your home, insulation, and existing radiator sizing.

  2. An MCS-certified installer designs the system and applies for the BUS grant voucher on your behalf.

  3. The outdoor unit and internal components (cylinder, controls) are installed — typically in one or two days.

  4. The system is commissioned, tested, and handed over with an MCS certificate and manufacturer warranty.

  5. Your installer redeems the grant voucher; you pay only the balance after the £7,500 deduction.

Benefits of Air Source Heat Pump

  • Eligible for up to £7,500 off via the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
  • Significantly lower carbon emissions than a gas or oil boiler
  • Can provide both space heating and hot water from a single system
  • Works efficiently even in temperatures as low as −20°C
  • MCS certification required — guarantees workmanship and equipment standards
  • May reduce energy bills when replacing an oil or LPG boiler

Typical cost

Typically £7,000–£13,000 installed before grants

Costs vary significantly depending on property size, existing systems, and installer. A surveyor's assessment will give you an accurate figure. Available grants (listed below) can substantially reduce the net cost.
